Lori Beavis (Mississauga and Irish/ Welsh settler descent) is an art educator/ art historian and curator based in Montreal. She has recently completed her PhD. in Art Education at Concordia University. Lori’s dissertation investigated the relationship between life long art experiences and cultural identity in the lives of four contemporary Indigenous women artists. Lori’s work in art education brings together art making, social responsibility and issues related to identity. Her first major curatorial project, The Rebel Yells; Dress and Political Re-dress in Contemporary Indigenous Art (spring, 2015) brought together eleven artists from across Canada to further the conversation on art, identity and self-representation. Lori and Shelley Niro are very pleased to be showing recent work by Niro at The Northern Front Studio in Whitehorse during the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective/Collectif des commissaires autochtones national gathering Kwän Mày Dáyè Dàátth’i.
